Podcasts

iTunes Apple's free application for digital audio files. Best known for music but also has a huge range of podcasts. Songs generally cost while most podcasts are free.  You need to download and install their software to use the iTunes store.

Podcastalley Another excellent source of podcasts, and you don't need to install iTunes to use their resources although you will need to download some software.  From the site's About us page:  Welcome to the best place to find all information relating to podcasts and podcasting. We are striving to develop the biggest and best directory of podcasts (podcast directory) available on the Internet. Podcasting is a great way for professionals and individuals alike to create audio news files (podcasts) that people can download to their iPods or other portable media devices and listen to when they are away from their computers. Heck, some people even listen to these podcasts directly from their computers, no mp3 player needed!

Audiobooks

LibriVox Free audiobooks in mp3 format. LibriVox volunteers record chapters of books in the public domain and release the audio files back onto the net. Our goal is to make all public domain books available as free audio books.

eBooks

Many books have been turned into eBooks (readable on a normal computer screen or through a special reader).  Those that are out of copyright are usually available to download for free.

World eBook Fair For one month each year (July 4 - August 4) this site provides free access to over one million eBooks.  In the meantime you can still get free access at Project Gutenberg and the Internet Archive text section.
